About the role

A Sales Executive owns the journey from a qualified lead to a signed deal. Day to day that means booking and running discovery calls, giving demos, sending proposals, following up, handling objections and negotiating terms so that the customer buys and the company hits its revenue target.

Most of the work is tracked in a CRM. A good Sales Executive keeps every opportunity updated with the next step, the decision makers, the timeline and the real reason the customer would buy. This data drives the forecast that managers and finance rely on, so accuracy matters as much as activity.

The role is measured on numbers: quota attainment, win rate, average deal size, sales cycle length and pipeline coverage. The best performers combine discipline (daily prospecting, clean pipeline, fast follow-up) with genuine curiosity about the customer's problem, and they sell on value and outcomes rather than on discounts.

Learning roadmap

  1. 1

    Learn the sales process

Understand the stages from lead to close: prospecting, qualification, discovery, demo, proposal, negotiation and closing. Learn what exit criteria move a deal from one stage to the next.

  2. 2

    Master discovery and qualification

Practise open questions, active listening and a qualification framework such as BANT or MEDDICC. Learn to find the pain, its business impact, the decision process and the timeline.

  3. 3

    Build prospecting habits

Write short, personalised emails and call scripts, run multi-touch sequences across phone, email and LinkedIn, and track reply and meeting rates so you can improve them.

  4. 4

    Handle objections and negotiate

Learn to acknowledge, clarify and respond to objections about price, timing and competitors. Practise trading concessions instead of giving them away, and protect margin.

  5. 5

    Manage pipeline and forecast

Keep the CRM clean, set a clear next step on every deal, calculate pipeline coverage and learn to forecast commit, best case and pipeline categories honestly.

  6. 6

    Grow into larger deals

Learn multi-threading across stakeholders, mutual action plans, business cases with ROI and working with procurement and legal to close bigger, more complex deals.
