How would you learn our product quickly enough to start selling?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Use the product hands-on
- Learn the customer problems it solves
- Study top reps' calls and demos
- Learn competitors and common objections
- Practise the pitch and get feedback
Model answer
I would start by using the product myself, completing the main workflows a customer would. Then I would focus on the problems it solves rather than every feature: which customer types buy, why they buy and what results they get. Listening to recorded calls from the top reps in Gong would show me how they explain value and handle objections. I would ask product marketing for competitor comparisons and the most common objections, and sit in on a few live demos and customer success calls. Then I would practise my discovery and demo with my manager or a peer and ask for honest feedback. Within the first few weeks I want to be able to explain the product simply and know when to bring in a technical expert.
