How do you ensure WPS compliance in the UAE and process final settlement for a leaver there?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Pay salaries through WPS via an approved bank or exchange using the salary information file
- Keep employee IDs, contracts and bank details aligned with official records
- Pay on time and match contract salaries to avoid penalties
- Final settlement: unpaid salary, accrued leave, end-of-service gratuity on basic, other contractual dues
- Deduct lawful recoveries, settle on time and keep signed records
Model answer
For WPS, I make sure every mainland employee is paid through the Wage Protection System via the company agent bank or exchange house, using the salary information file. Each record must carry the correct employee identifiers and account details, so I keep master data aligned with the labour contract and visa records and update it as soon as a card or bank account changes. Salaries must be paid on time and should match what the contract says, because late or short payment is flagged and can lead to penalties or restrictions on the company. For a leaver, the final settlement normally includes unpaid salary to the last day, payment for accrued but unused annual leave, end-of-service gratuity calculated on basic salary and length of service, and any contractual items such as a return ticket. I deduct only lawful recoveries, pay within the required time, and get a signed settlement acknowledgement.
