About the role
A Payroll Specialist makes sure every employee is paid the right amount, on the right day, with the right deductions. On a normal day you collect inputs such as attendance, leave, new joiners, exits, increments and reimbursements, run the payroll in software such as Zoho Payroll, greytHR or SAP SuccessFactors, check the results, and release salary files to the bank. You also answer employee questions about payslips, tax and deductions.
The job needs accuracy, care with deadlines and a good grip on rules. In India that means salary structures and CTC, provident fund, ESI, professional tax, TDS on salary and Form 16, along with gratuity, leave encashment and full and final settlements. In the UAE it means paying through the Wage Protection System and calculating end-of-service gratuity correctly. Because payroll data is highly confidential, you also follow strict controls on access, approvals and audits.
As you grow, you own the payroll calendar, reconcile payroll with accounts, handle statutory filings and audits, and help move the company to better payroll systems and processes.
