Why do you want to work as a recruiter?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Enjoys connecting people with opportunities
- Understands recruiting affects business results
- Comfortable with targets, pace and many stakeholders
- Values fairness and candidate experience
- Gives a real example or motivation
Model answer
I enjoy work that changes people's lives directly, and helping someone find the right job does that. I also like that recruiting has a clear business impact: every good hire helps a team deliver more, and every bad hire is expensive. In my previous role I helped organise campus drives, and I enjoyed talking to students, explaining roles honestly and seeing them join and succeed. I am comfortable with a fast pace, many conversations a day and targets, and I like the problem-solving side of working with hiring managers to define what they really need. I also care about fairness, so I am interested in structured interviews and good candidate experience, because the way we treat rejected candidates matters as much as how we treat hires.
