easyHR Recruiter interview question
How do you find and approach passive candidates?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Use LinkedIn, Boolean search, communities and referrals
- Personalise outreach to the person
- Share key facts and a clear small ask
- Follow up politely and build long-term relationships
Model answer
Passive candidates are not applying, so I go to where they are. I use Boolean search on LinkedIn and Google, look at GitHub or Behance for some roles, check industry communities and ask employees for referrals. When I reach out, I make the message personal: I mention something specific from their work, explain why the role fits, share key facts like location and salary range, and ask for a short 15-minute call. I follow up once or twice politely if there is no reply. Even if they say not now, I keep them in a talent pool with their consent and check in later, because many passive candidates become interested months later.
