About the role
A Tax Consultant helps individuals and businesses pay the right amount of tax, on time, and with as little risk as possible. On a normal day you might compute an income tax return, review a client’s GST input tax credit, answer a question about TDS on a foreign payment, draft a reply to a tax notice, or explain how UAE VAT applies to a new service. Most of the work combines reading the law, applying it to real facts and turning it into numbers and clear advice.
In India the core areas are income tax (heads of income, deductions, the old and new regimes, capital gains, TDS and advance tax) and GST (registration, CGST, SGST and IGST, place of supply, input tax credit, e-invoicing and returns). In the Gulf you work with UAE VAT at 5% and the UAE corporate tax regime with its 9% headline rate, free zone rules and transfer pricing. Cross-border work adds tax treaties, permanent establishment and residency questions, which are common for clients with links between India and the UAE.
As you grow, you move from compliance to advisory: planning transactions, structuring businesses, handling assessments and appeals, and supporting tax due diligence. Accuracy, up-to-date knowledge, clear written advice and strong ethics are essential, because tax law changes often and the line between planning and evasion must never be crossed.
