Model answer
A tax consultant helps clients meet their tax obligations correctly and on time, and reduce tax legally. The work has three parts. Compliance covers income tax returns, TDS returns, GST returns and, in the Gulf, VAT and corporate tax filings. Advisory covers questions like which regime to choose, how a transaction will be taxed, or how to set up a business in India or the UAE. Representation means replying to notices and handling assessments and appeals. A good consultant combines strong technical knowledge with practical judgement, because the law changes every year through Finance Acts, notifications and circulars, and must be checked rather than remembered. They explain complex rules in simple words, document advice in writing, meet deadlines, and are honest about risk. Most importantly, they act ethically and refuse to help with evasion, even when a client pushes for it.
