A prospect says, "We are happy with our current provider." How do you respond?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Respect their satisfaction
- Ask questions to find gaps or future needs
- Share how similar customers improved
- Offer a low-risk next step
- Stay in touch until the timing is right
Model answer
I would not argue with them, because being happy is good news for them. I would say something like, "That is great to hear. Out of interest, if you could change one thing about the current setup, what would it be?" That often reveals a small frustration or a coming change, such as growth or new requirements. I might share a short example of a similar company that was also happy, but found a specific gain by switching, like cutting reporting time in half. Then I offer a low-risk next step, such as a short comparison session or a benchmark. If there is truly nothing, I ask when their contract renews, note it in the CRM and keep in touch with useful insights until then.
