mediumSales Executive interview question
How do you make a product demo effective instead of a long feature tour?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Start with the pains found in discovery
- Show only the relevant workflows
- Tell a story around their use case
- Check in and ask questions during the demo
- Finish with agreed next steps
Model answer
I never demo without discovery first. I open by restating the two or three problems they told me about and confirm they are still the priorities. Then I show only the workflows that solve those problems, using their language and, where possible, data that looks like theirs. I tell it as a story: this is how your team handles a new order today, and this is how it would look with us. I pause often to ask if it fits how they work. I keep it short, leave time for questions, and end by agreeing the next step and who else should see it.
Can you answer it under time pressure?
