easyContent Writer interview question
How is writing for the web different from writing for print?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Web readers scan, so structure matters
- Key point first, short paragraphs
- Headings, lists and links help navigation
- Search and mobile reading must be considered
Model answer
Web readers usually scan instead of reading every word, often on a phone. So I put the main point first, keep paragraphs short and use descriptive headings and bullet lists where they help. Links let readers go deeper without making the page too long, and internal links help both readers and search engines. I also think about search: what the reader typed and whether the page answers it quickly. Print readers are more likely to read from start to end, so print can use longer flowing text. On the web I also consider accessibility, like alt text for images and clear link text instead of "click here".
