easyContent Writer interview question
How do you handle critical feedback from an editor on your draft?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Stay open and do not take it personally
- Understand the reason behind each comment
- Ask questions when unclear
- Apply changes and learn patterns for next time
Model answer
I see feedback as part of the job, not a personal attack. Editors see the piece from the reader's side, which I cannot always do after hours of writing. I first read all comments fully, then try to understand the reason behind each one. If a comment is unclear or I think it changes the meaning, I ask politely and explain my thinking, but I am ready to accept the final call. I apply the changes and keep a short list of repeated issues, such as long intros or passive voice, so I fix them before the next draft. Over time this reduces editing rounds and builds trust with the editor.
