easyContent Writer interview question
What makes a good headline for a blog post?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Clearly states the topic and benefit
- Matches search intent and includes the main keyword naturally
- Is specific, for example with a number or outcome
- Is honest and delivers on its promise
- Fits length limits and can be tested
Model answer
A good headline tells the right reader, quickly, what they will get. It names the topic and the benefit, and it is specific: "How to cut your grocery bill by 20%" is stronger than "Saving money tips". For search, it should match what people are looking for and include the main keyword naturally near the start, while staying around 60 characters so it is not cut off. It must also be honest. If the article does not deliver on the promise, readers leave and trust drops, so I avoid clickbait. I usually write ten or more options, choose two or three, and where possible test them in email subject lines or social posts before picking one.
