easyContent Writer interview question
What is search intent and why does it matter to a content writer?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Intent is the reason behind a search
- Types: informational, navigational, commercial, transactional
- Format and angle must match intent
- Mismatched content does not rank or convert
Model answer
Search intent is the reason a person types a search. The main types are informational, where they want to learn; navigational, where they want a specific site; commercial, where they compare options; and transactional, where they are ready to buy or sign up. It matters because the content must match what the reader wants. If someone searches "best running shoes under 5000", they want a comparison list, not a history of running shoes. Before writing, I check the current search results to see which formats and angles appear. If I mismatch intent, the page will struggle to rank and readers will leave quickly, even if the writing is good.
