With AI answers appearing in search and chat tools, how would you change a company's content strategy?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Accept fewer clicks on simple facts
- Invest in original data, expertise and experience
- Clear structure so content is easy to cite
- Build brand and owned channels
- Measure leads and visibility, not only clicks
Model answer
I would accept that simple definition content will lose clicks, since AI answers summarise it directly. So I would move budget toward content that is hard to copy: original surveys and data, expert opinions, real case studies, calculators and templates. I would structure pages clearly with direct answers under descriptive headings, accurate facts and named authors with real credentials, because that makes content more likely to be cited and trusted. I would also build channels we own, like a newsletter, community and LinkedIn presence, so we depend less on search. Finally I would change reporting: alongside clicks, I would track brand searches, mentions or citations in AI tools where possible, and most importantly leads and revenue from content.
