How do you work with sales and product teams as a CSM?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Clean handoff from sales with documented goals
- Share expansion leads and coordinate on renewals
- Bring structured customer feedback to product with data
- Avoid promising roadmap items
- Close the loop with customers
Model answer
With sales, I want a clear handoff that documents why the customer bought, what was promised and who the stakeholders are, so onboarding starts on the right foot. Later, I share qualified expansion opportunities and we coordinate on renewals so the customer gets one consistent message. With product, I bring feedback in a structured way: the problem, how many customers face it, and the revenue at stake, instead of forwarding every request. I never promise roadmap dates to customers, but I make sure product hears the real needs. When something ships that a customer asked for, I close the loop and tell them, which builds a lot of trust. Regular syncs and shared CRM notes keep everyone aligned.
