How do you work with engineers and designers?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Share the problem and context, not just solutions
- Involve them early in discovery
- Respect their expertise on how to build and design
- Keep communication clear and regular
Model answer
I see engineers and designers as partners, not people who just take orders. I share the problem, the customer evidence and the goal, and then we explore solutions together. I involve them early, for example inviting an engineer and designer to customer calls, because they often come up with better and cheaper ideas. I respect their expertise: designers own the user experience and engineers own how things are built, while I focus on the why and the priorities. I try to be available during the sprint to answer questions quickly and make decisions on scope. When trade-offs appear, I explain the business impact so we can decide together. I also make sure the team gets credit for results and hears customer feedback directly.
