- Leads through influence, not authority
Model answer
A product manager makes sure the team builds the right things for the right reasons. That starts with understanding customers, the market and the business goals, and turning that into clear problems worth solving. The PM decides the priority order and explains why, so everyone knows what matters most. Then they work closely with designers and engineers to find good solutions, write clear requirements, and help remove blockers during delivery. After launch, they measure whether the change achieved its goal and decide what to do next. PMs usually do not manage the people they work with, so they lead through influence: sharing context, using data and building trust. In short, the PM is responsible for the outcome, not just for shipping features.
