Your company wants to launch its product in a new country. How would you approach the product strategy?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Research market size, customers, competitors and regulations
- Identify what must be localised: language, payments, laws
- Define target segment and success metrics
- Start with a limited pilot and learn
- Plan go-to-market with other teams
Model answer
I would start with research to understand the market: size, customer needs, how people solve the problem today, competitors, and rules like data protection and licences. For example, moving from India to the UAE would mean different payment methods, Arabic language support and local data rules. Next I would decide which customer segment to target first and what product changes are essential, such as local payments, language and pricing, versus what can wait. I would define success metrics and run a limited pilot, perhaps in one city or with a small group of partner customers, to test demand and the funnel. I would work closely with marketing, sales, legal and support on go-to-market. Based on pilot results, we decide whether to scale, change the approach or stop.
