hardGraphic Designer interview question

You presented three logo concepts and the client rejected all of them. What do you do next?

What the interviewer wants to hear

  • Stay calm and gather specific feedback
  • Find out what is missing compared to the brief
  • Check if the brief itself was unclear or has changed
  • Reset direction with references and agree before new work

Model answer

First I stay calm and treat it as a learning point. I ask for a short call to understand why each concept did not work: was it the style, colours, the feeling, or something the brief never mentioned. Often the real cause is a gap in the brief, or a new stakeholder who was not involved earlier. I would bring back the brief and check whether goals or audience have changed. Then I run a quick direction exercise, showing visual references in different styles and asking which feel right and which feel wrong. That turns vague taste into a clear direction. I confirm the new direction in writing before designing again. If this means more work than the contract covers, I discuss scope and timing openly, so the relationship stays healthy.
