hardGraphic Designer interview question

A company has 300 employees creating presentations, social posts and flyers without designers, and the brand looks inconsistent. How do you fix this at scale?

What the interviewer wants to hear

  • Audit current materials and common needs
  • Create locked, easy templates in tools people already use
  • Central asset library: logos, photos, icons
  • Short, practical guidelines and training
  • Governance: owners, feedback loop, regular updates

Model answer

I would begin with an audit: collect what people actually produce and ask them what they need most often and why they break the rules. Usually they are not careless; they lack easy tools. So I create a small set of high-quality templates for the most common needs, like slides, social posts, event flyers and email headers, in the tools they already use such as PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva or Adobe Express, with logos, fonts and colours locked. A central asset library gives easy access to approved logos, photos and icons. Guidelines should be short and practical, with do and don't examples, supported by a quick training session. Finally I set up governance: a brand owner, a channel for questions, periodic reviews of what is being made, and updates to templates as needs change.
