How would you run a kickoff call with a new customer?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Prepare by reading sales handoff notes
- Confirm goals and success criteria
- Identify stakeholders and roles
- Agree an onboarding plan with dates
- Set communication cadence and next steps
Model answer
Before the call, I would read the sales handoff notes so the customer does not have to repeat themselves. On the call, I would introduce myself and my role, then confirm why they bought the product and what success looks like in measurable terms, for example reducing report time by half in three months. I would identify the key people: the executive sponsor, the project owner and the main users. Then we would agree an onboarding plan with milestones, owners on both sides and dates, focused on reaching the first real result quickly. I would also agree how often we will meet and how to reach support. I would end with clear next steps and send a written summary the same day.
