A marketing team wants all generated content to match their brand voice. How do you achieve consistency?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Turn brand guidelines into concrete instructions
- Provide good and bad examples
- Reusable system prompt or template
- Rubric-based evaluation with the brand team
- Consider fine-tuning only if prompting is not enough
Model answer
Brand guidelines are often vague, like "friendly but professional", so I work with the team to turn them into concrete rules: sentence length, words we use and avoid, use of humour, how we address the reader, and formatting. Then I collect several approved pieces as positive examples and a few off-brand pieces with notes on why they are wrong. These go into a reusable system prompt template shared by all content types, with task-specific parts on top. To check consistency, I build a rubric with the brand team and score outputs across many topics, using an LLM judge calibrated against their ratings. Regular reviews catch drift. If prompting cannot reach the needed consistency across large volumes, fine-tuning on approved content is an option, but I would try strong examples first.
