At my last company, a product manager rejected 12 candidates for a senior designer role in a month, usually with "not strong enough." I booked a 30-minute calibration session and asked him to review three profiles with me and explain exactly what was missing. It turned out he cared most about B2B SaaS dashboard work, which was not in the job description. We updated the must-haves and I shared market data showing how few such designers were open to move in our budget. He agreed to accept strong mobile designers with complex product work. I also asked for feedback within 24 hours of each interview. The next five candidates had a much higher pass rate and we filled the role in three weeks. Since then, I do a calibration review early for every hard role.
