How would you design a campus hiring programme for 40 graduate hires?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Plan from business needs and joining dates
- Select campuses beyond the usual few for quality and diversity
- Build employer brand on campus
- Use scalable, structured assessments
- Engage offer holders until joining
Model answer
I would start with the business: which teams need graduates, which skills and when they should join, then plan backwards through the placement calendar. I would choose a mix of campuses using past hire performance data, and add colleges outside the usual few to widen the talent pool. Before placement season we would build awareness with talks, hackathons or case competitions, involving young employees who studied there. The selection process needs to scale: an online assessment of relevant skills, a structured group or individual interview with a scorecard, and a final round with managers. After offers, which often come months before joining, I would keep students engaged with newsletters, mentors and pre-joining learning, and track offer-to-join conversion and first-year performance by campus to improve next year.
