What do you keep in mind when designing graphics for social media?
What the interviewer wants to hear
- Platform formats and safe areas for UI overlays
- Grab attention quickly with a clear focal point
- Readable text on small mobile screens, little copy
- Consistent branding across posts
- Export settings and accessibility such as alt text and captions
Model answer
Most people see social content on a phone while scrolling quickly, so each graphic needs one clear focal point and a short message that reads in a second or two. I design for each platform's formats, like square, portrait and vertical story sizes, and keep text and logos inside safe areas so the app interface does not cover them. Text must be large and high contrast on a small screen, and I keep copy minimal, letting the caption carry detail. I use templates and consistent colours, type and image style so posts are recognisable as the brand in a busy feed. For export I use sRGB and the right dimensions, MP4 for animation, and I make sure posts include alt text and that videos have captions for people watching without sound.
